Hi there,
Here is one remote career story you won't want to skip.
Morteza Shojaei started as a self-taught freelancer in Iran. Today he's a blockchain developer at MoonPay in London.
We sat down with him to ask how it happened. Here are the takeaways:
1. Portfolio beat the diploma
University gave him connections and a grounding in the fundamentals. But what got him the next project was showing what he had built.
2. Blockchain was a deliberate choice
Faced with two equal offers, he picked the one that opened a way into a newer field with fewer specialists.
3. English was the biggest career lever
His English was basic when he landed his first international role. Improving it, he says, was one of the most valuable things he's done for his career.
4. MoonPay came to him
They reached out on LinkedIn, ran a six-stage interview process, handled his visa and arranged his initial accommodation. From offer to London took roughly two to three months.
"Having skills that are harder to find gives them a stronger reason to consider you."
Morteza Shojaei
His advice for a first remote job
Don't give up, and expect it to take time. Companies need to trust someone they may never meet, so build expertise in something technically demanding that fewer people can do.
